Challenge
Inconsistent resources create training gaps for lab technicians
Siemens faced a critical challenge: preparing technicians to effectively interact with lab room and fume hood controls required strong foundational understanding of relevant vocabulary and concepts, but training was scattered throughout many different resources. This disjointed approach made it difficult for technicians to grasp necessary information and particularly hindered new hires.
The real challenge wasn’t just consolidating content—it was creating cohesive, accessible training that could supplement existing Critical Environment (CE) training while ensuring wider reach to more technicians. Siemens needed an online curriculum that would streamline training processes and enhance overall technician proficiency in critical environments.
Collaborating with ThinkingKap to develop our eLearning course on fume hoods in Critical Environments has been a great experience. The immersive 3D animations and 360⁰ views made the training both engaging and highly effective, giving our technicians a robust foundational understanding to build upon.

Solution
Interactive eLearning bridges Critical Environment knowledge gaps
From scattered resources to immersive learning: a strategic transformation
To solve the problem of disjointed training materials, our primary goal was to create a single, comprehensive baseline course for critical environment technicians. In collaboration with the Siemens team, we identified the essential concepts needed to build a strong foundation of knowledge.
The solution was an immersive eLearning course built with 3D animations and 360° views. This approach created a lifelike virtual lab environment, allowing technicians to safely explore equipment, understand complex airflow, and examine procedures in a cohesive and highly effective training module.
Approach
Immersive 3D learning strategy that builds comprehensive technical competency through guided exploration
Here’s how our collaborative design process transformed scattered resources into systematic technical training:

Impact
Significantly improved technician readiness in Critical Environments
Key learner outcomes
- Enhanced technical knowledge and procedural execution
- Reduced on-the-job orientation time
- Increased safety awareness through immersive hazard identification
- Visually dynamic learning experience provided a solid foundation of knowledge
- Learners were prepared for more advanced courses and training
Significantly enhanced effectiveness and engagement, making learning more immersive and stimulating
By offering a visually dynamic learning experience, we were able to provide a solid foundation of knowledge on lab room and fume hood controls. This solid foundational knowledge prepared technicians more effectively for advanced courses and further on-the-job training. Overall, our eLearning course not only streamlined Siemens’ training process, but also ensured a higher level of competency and readiness among their new and existing technicians.
The Strategic Difference: This wasn’t just about building a 3D model; it was about solving an information problem. We worked with Siemens to consolidate scattered resources into one cohesive learning experience. That strategic consolidation, powered by immersive visuals, created a clear learning path that dramatically improved technician proficiency.
